20130819-234001.jpgThis is head and shoulders my favorite artist. Several reasons besides the fact that he's a wizard at his craft. First, I grew up on his work. For those who are unfamiliar, this painting entitled "Sugar Shack" was the signature piece for the 1970's sitcom "Good Times." All of the paintings with the exception of the Jesus painting that appeared on the Evans' living room wall were Barnes pieces. There was nothing cooler than the episodes when JJ (Jimmie Walker) who was playing the role of a young aspiring artist in the Housing Projects of Chicago, would reveal a new piece. You can see Barnes' influence in a lot of the artwork of contemporary favorites like Charles Bibbs, Justin Bua, and Frank Morrison. Another reason he sits at the top of my list is that he and his daughter attended the same university that my wife and I did our undergraduate study... North Carolina Central University in Durham. This is my man! Love him too, or I'm coming to find you. Ha You can view more of his artwork at:
